Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of an Animal Welfare Officer at Animal Aircare

29 Oct, 2024

Every day at Animal Aircare, our Animal Welfare Officers are on the front lines, ensuring the well-being of pets travelling through the bustling Gatwick and Heathrow airports. With over 25 years of experience in pet air travel, our officers handle various tasks with care, compassion, and precision.

Morning Routine: Ensuring Animal Comfort and Safety

The day starts with an essential task: conducting welfare checks on all the animals staying in our state-of-the-art reception centres. From temperature-controlled rooms to freshly prepared bedding, we ensure each animal is comfortable and secure. Special dietary needs are also taken care of, ensuring the well-being of every pet, whether it’s a dog, cat, or reptile.

Midday Duties: Coordinating with Airlines and Couriers

By mid-morning, the officers begin liaising with airlines, government agencies, and couriers to ensure smooth transitions for pets arriving or departing. Whether managing customs clearance or communicating with anxious pet owners, our officers ensure every animal’s journey is as seamless and stress-free as possible.

Handling Special Situations: Rescue and Exotic Pets

Our team is trained to handle unique situations, from rescuing pets in crisis to managing the safe transport of exotic animals. Recently, Animal Aircare played a key role in housing over 80 Ukrainian rescue animals, providing them with safe accommodations during their quarantine. Every day can bring a new challenge, but our officers are always ready.

Evening Care: Keeping Owners Informed and Pets Secure

As the day winds down, our welfare officers ensure that all animals are safely secured for the night. Updates, including photos and health reports, are sent to owners so they can rest assured knowing their pets are in good hands. Regular communication is key to giving pet owners peace of mind.

At Animal Aircare, every day is an opportunity to care for animals and ensure their safety during transit. Our Animal Welfare Officers are committed to providing exceptional service and care, ensuring pets travel safely and comfortably.
